    John is a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Marquette, Michigan. In his thirty years of professional experience, he has served as a child care worker, a drug and alcohol abuse counselor, a program director in community based corrections, and a manager of day treatment programs for persons with severe mental illness. He was the Clinical Program Director for a community mental health board for twelve years.

    In 1994, John returned to school to pursue a Doctorate Degree in Psychology. During graduate studies he was drawn to the study of boundary as a critical aspect of human behavior.  He was dismayed to find little in the field of psychology that was helpful to understanding how boundary operates. His dissertation research began a journey of discovery that continues today.

    John has written a book describing his search for an operational definition of boundary, and the boundary oriented treatment approach that evolved in his clinical practice.  He calls this approach Boundarytime.

    Currently he is applying this approach in a family based treatment model for children referred from the Marquette Family Court.  He is working with other researchers to initiate a clinical trial that will better understand ways in which boundary helps families connect.

    In response to requests from the local Big Brother/Big Sister program, John has recently completed work on a booklet for mentors titles "The Healing Power of Boundary: A Guide for Mentors." also available through this web site.
