Summer 2006 Themes for this year: Patience and Perseverance Boundarytime Newsletter Summer 2006 Summm er tiiimmme and the liv in is eeeeeea sy!! Is the music playing? Hope so. My summer has been adventuresome and rewarding thus far. The bicycle trip across Scotland the last two weeks of June was everything I hoped it would be and more. This completed the End-to-End adventure begun two years ago with friends Gene Turkelson and Bill Hupy. We bicycled from the southern point of England (Lands End) to the northern point of Scotland (John O’Groats). The touring afterward was also great. You have to know that Scotland is filled with castles and battles won and battles lost. Quite a bloody past as they will tell you. Aye! But in the middle of all these war heroes and battlefields still ringing with the clash of broadsword against shield, I ran across two historical figures who are honored for saving lives, not taking them. The first is St. Magnus, in whose honor there is a huge Cathedral on Orkney Island. Seems Magnus, back in the early 1100’s, was ordered to go to battle with neighboring tribes. He told the ruler who held the power at the time that he had no quarrel with his neighbors and would not fight. He was killed as a martyr with an axe to his skull. (Okay- there had to be blood somewhere in this Scottish story). The next was further south in the UK. At Dover there is a monument to Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsey. Seems he and a group of exceptionally talented staff managed to save the lives 338,000 British Troops and 139,000 French soldiers who were being shelled by the Germans in Dunkirk. He did this by putting together an armada of boats (everything that would float) and secreting their way across the English Channel during the Second World War. Renews ones hopes! But back to business, right? Thanks to the efforts of Tina Sills, MA, LMSW, I will be presenting at three workshops during the Family Preservation conference to be held during August in Lansing. This will help me launch the new Boundarytime® mentors guide and introduce Boundarytime® to a wider audience. Speaking of wider audience, I am also now signed up for the Adwords program that Google operates. Still trying to determine all the best ways to get the word out. Also working on an article I will submit to magazines. AND, I am also pleased to announce that I now work with Diane List, Ph.D., at List Psychological Services in Saginaw. List Psychological Services is a group of full service outpatient clinics with a terrific staff of experienced clinicians. I will continue my practice and contract work in Marquette at a reduced level. Hope your summer is everything you wanted it to be, and if you find yourself in the UP - give a call, eh? 906-225-1071.
